Area Young Musicians Enjoy MP Honor Band

The Mount Pleasant Community School’s music department held its 18th annual Mount Pleasant Middle School Honor Band on Saturday at the high school, hosting 255 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students from 16 schools in Southeast Iowa.
Guest conductor for the seventh and eight grade Honor Band was Kevin Brown, a band instructor in the Iowa City School District. The sixth grade Honor Band was led by Jim DePriest, Mount Pleasant High School band director. Both conductors worked with their respective bands throughout the day, with both groups presenting a concert for the public at the conclusion of the day.
Like in the past years, band directors from the participating schools formed a group and performed several jazz tunes at the concert.
Schools that had students participating were Holy Trinity Catholic of Fort Madison, Central Lee, Burlington - Edward Stone, Fort Madison, Davis County, Eddyville-Blakeburg-Fremont, Harmony, Fairfield, Washington, Mediapolis, Morning Sun, Mid-Prairie, Van Buren, Pekin, Sigourney, and host Mount Pleasant.
