Music Students in Talents for Christ Contest

Seven students from the school district that are members of Calvary Baptist Church will be taking part in the Talents for Christ competition in Des Moines on April 5. Conducted in mostly the same format as the IHSMA solo and ensemble contest, these students will be competing for scholarships with other Christian students from Iowa.
Three high school band members will be performing solos. Ben Zihlman, a freshman trumpet player, will play "Andante and Allegro" and "Amazing Grace". Sophomore trombonist Collin Katsion's selections will be "Morceau de Concours" and "Beneath the Cross of Jesus". Matt Zihlman, a senior, will be play "Theme de Concours" and a medley on songs called "Wonderfull Grace"
Emily Anderson and Mallory Swigart, both involved with the high school music program, are part of a 17 voice vocal ensemble that will perform "Do Not I Love Thee" and "Indescribable". Also part of the group are Erin Zihlman, Collin Katsion, and Matt Zihlman.
In the Junior High category, two seventh graders will be participating. They are Erin Zihlman, playing "Christ the Lord is Risen Today" on the flute, and Hannah Hess with a piano solo "Standing on the Promises".
