A buzzer beating shot, ruled a three pointer by the officials, erased a Panther two point lead and lead to a 49-48 defeat at home to the Fairfield Trojans last night.
The game winning shot by foreign exchange student Federico Ferretti, Fairfield's leading scorer in conference play, enabled the Trojans to complete a sweep of Mt. Pleasant during the regular season. Fairfield had beaten the Panthers 63-60 in December.
Trey Magnani led Mt. Pleasant with 21 points as he continues his fine play recently. The Panthers are now 5-7 overall, 2-3 in league play.
Mt. Pleasant travels to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Tuesday night.
Meanwhile the Panther girls were upset at Fairfield 46-31. This afternoon Mt. Pleasant's girls team will host #2 ranked class 3A Mediapolis, who crushed L&M last night 69-29, led by Andrea Larson’s 16 points to be one of four double figure scorers. The Bullettes, long known for excellence in girls basketball, are now 10-0 while Mt. Pleasant has dropped to 7-4.
