Dancing With The Stars For A Good Cause
October 28, 2013Mt Pleasant High School
Numerous current students, faculty, alumni, and a recently retired superintendent will share their talents next month to help the Save The Union Block cause.
General admission and premium center section tickets for “Dancing with the Stars – Mt. Pleasant Style” will go on sale today. Proceeds from this Sunday, November 17 single performance event at 7:00 pm, at the Heatilator Performing Arts Center will benefit the Union Block Revitalization project.
General admission tickets for $15 will be sold at Brown’s Shoe Fit and Jerry’s Restaurant. A limited number of $25 premium center section tickets, which will include admission to the Mt. Pleasant Community High School Culinary Arts students’ pre-event reception, will be available at the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance office.
Loosely based on the popular ABC television show, “Dancing with the Stars”, nine local individuals or groups are entered into the competition. Dancers and the type of dance they will be performing are as follows: Ron Clouse (hula), Sidney Taylor (tap dance), Kiley and Carry Miller (tango), Mt. Pleasant Community High School Dance Team (State Competition routine), Dr. John Roederer and Paige Stater (doo-wop to hip-hop), IWC Dance Class (folk dance and jazz), Paula Kinney and Alex Oetken (quick step), Jim DePriest and the Flying Flendersohnns of Chernobyl, Russia (ballet), and Soul Expressions class (folk dance).
The appearance by the Chernobyl Ballet will be the first since a memorable performance a couple years ago at the high school's Variety Show.
Heidi Riepe and KILJ's John Kuhens will serve as Masters of Ceremony for the performance. Dave Brown, Adam McLaughlin and Sherilyn Alden will serve as judges.
The winners of the coveted mirror ball will, however, be determined by the public. Ticket holders at the event will be able to vote their preference by casting votes for $1. Persons who are unable to attend the event but want to support their favorite dancers can cast $1 votes at the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce from November 18 – November 22. The mirror ball will be awarded to the winning performers on November 25.
The Union Block Revitalization project involves the rebuilding of a downtown building that holds much historical significance but has fallen in disrepair in recent years.
