Dowling Catholic Wins Big At Marching Invitational

Dowling Catholic had the best overall score and won the 4A title at the Mt. Pleasant Marching Band Invitational Saturday night. Marion took top honors in 3A and Wapello won the top spot in 1A/2A.
In Class 1A, Wapello was followed by Central Lee, Mediapolis, and West Burlington.
A powerful 3A lineup saw Marion followed by Benton Community, Keokuk, Western Dubuque, Fort Madison, Washington, West Delaware, Albia, and Maquoketa.
Placing second behind Dowling Catholic was Bettendorf, followed by Ottumwa and Muscatine.
Keokuk won the Sweepstakes Award for having the highest combined score from the Fort Madison Band Classic held earlier in the day and the Mt. Pleasant Invitational. There were six bands that competed in both events.
Mediapolis received Caption Awards in 1A/2A for Best Drum Major and Best Color Guard while Wapello captured top honors for Best Drumline and Best Horn Line.
Class 3A Caption Awards went to Marion for drumline and horn line, Keokuk for color guard, and Benton Community for drum major.
In 4A Dowling Catholic captured honors for drum major, drumline, and horn line while Bettendorf was judged to have the best color guard.
The best represented band was Benton Community, who had 86 fans attending, based on a ticket stub fans received at admissions and placed in their school’s bucket.
The sixteenth annual Mt. Pleasant Marching Invitational will be held in 2014 on September 20.
