Mt. Pleasant Hosting Marching Invitational

More than 1450 high school instrumentalists will be showing off their stuff Saturday night at the 15th annual Mt. Pleasant Marching Invitational at Maplelelaf Athletic Complex.
The evening will kick off at 5:30 with an exhibition performance by the Mt. Pleasant Middle School Marching Band, who boasts 105 members in grades 7 and 8. They are directed by Adam Creager and will play Music of the Blues Brothers.
The competition then begins, with Muscatine High School first taking the field followed by Mediapolis, West Burlington, Central Lee, Wapello, Keokuk Marion, Albia, Washington, and Benton.
After a break for the judges, competition continues with Maquoketa, West Delaware, Fort Madison, Ottumwa, Bettendorf, and West Des Moines Dowling Catholic.
The Mt. Pleasant Panther Marching Band will conclude the evening with an exhibition performance. The band numbers 194 which is the largest in school history and is one of the biggest bands in Iowa this year. Their show features music from Miss Saigon. They are directed by Jim DePriest.
Trophies will be awarded to winners in each class as determined by school enrollment, as well as awards for best hornline, best drumline, best color guard, and best drum majors. A fan award will also be given for the school that has the most fans and a sweepstakes award presented to the band with the highest point total for the combined scores from this conpetition and one in Fort Madison in the afternoon.
