Home » Girls' Basketball NewsFairfield Ends Panthers Season 52-47February 13, 2013 Mt Pleasant High SchoolAfter two easy wins against the Fairfield Trojans during the regular season, the Mt. Pleasant girls basketball team was expected to win again in the opening round of district play tonight. But because of a stellar effort by the visiting Trojans in the second half, Fairfield goes on and Mt. Pleasant's seson ends. The final score was 52-47. The Panther girls led by 9 at the half, but Fairfield played tough against the young Mt. Pleasant team down the stretch, showing more poise when it counted. Fairfield cracked the boards throughout the game, especially the second half. Crucial turnovers and missed free throws also hurt MP. Mt. Pleasant made more field goals than Fairfield, but Fairfield scored more from the charity stripe. Leading scorer for Mt. Pleasant was Natalie Myers with 14 points. Taryne Shull had 11, Hannah Becker and Natalie Ita 7 each, and Kelsi Phipps 4 rounded out the scoring. The team finishes the season 13-9, playing a tough schedule. They finished second in the conference. The roster was composed entirely of underclassmen, with only 3 juniors, 7 sophomores, and 3 freshmen. Many referred Mt. Pleasant as having the "best JV team in the state". With no graduating seniors, the team will return intact for what hopes to be an exciting 2013-14 season.
