MP Girls Prepare For Defending Champ West

The Mt. Pleasant Panthers girls basketball team faces defending state champion Iowa City West Tuesday night at Panther Gym, with the JV contest starting at 6:00 PM. West has a record of 13-4 and they are coming off a loss to another state power, Davenport Assumption, 73-52 at home.

Mt. Pleasant kept their Southeast Conference title hopes alive with a win at home over Ft. Madison 52-28 Friday night and league leader Washington fell to Keokuk 45-40 leaving the Panthers a chance to tie for the title if they can beat Washington on the road February 8. Ft. Madison won the freshman game 37-36 in double overtime, scoring the winning bucket with 3 seconds remaining.

Saturday the girls basketball team improved their record to 10-6 with a 62-48 win at Burlington.  Kelsi Phipps scored 21 points and Taryne Shull added 16.
