Panther Girls Send Several To State

Mt. Pleasant hosted qualifying events yesterday at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex for the State Track and Field Championships next week in Des Moines
The Panther girl’s track team finished second in the team race but will be sending plenty of athletes onto the State Track and Field Championships. Williamsburg won the team title with 167.5 points, the Panthers had 158, Fairfield was third in the field of eight with 91 points.
Leslie Taylor qualified for state in four events. She won the long jump 16’ 11”, 100 meter hurdles 15.03, a school record. Kelsi Phipps was second in a 15.65 time and goes to state. Taylor ran on the winning shuttle hurdle relay 64.62, also a school record, with Hannah Becker, Kaitlin Jones and Kelsi Phipps. She wrapped up the night running on the first place 4×100 relay with Kelsi Smith, Kelsi Phipps and Taylor Shull.
Chloe Haffarnan will go to Des Moines in the 800, finishing second in a time of 2:24.49. Ellie Conrad finished second in the 1500 meters in 5:06.72.
The Panthers also won the 4×800 9:50.05 with the quartet of Natalie Myers, Taryne Shull, Natalie Ita and Chloe Haffarnan. The Distance medley relay team finished second with a time of 4:27.65 and comprised of Kelsi Smith, Laura Hult, Grace Lutovsky and Taryne Shull.
There are several other Mt. Pleasant events that could qualify for state as being in the next fastest times and best distance. Hannah Becker in the 400 meter hurdles and Mary Wester in the shot put are two waiting to hear if they qualify.
