Some Good Seen In Girls Loss To Top Ranked West
January 31, 2012Mt Pleasant High School
A loss is a loss, especially when it is by 20 points, 61-41. But even though the Panthers were defeated by the top 4A team in Iowa tonight, Coach Joanna Settles saw some good things happen.
For starters, Mt. Pleasant played toe to toe with Iowa City West through the first quarter and actually led by two at the end of the period. It was tied at 20 a piece with a few minutes left in the half, but West ended the second quarter on an 8-0 run after Taryne Shull picked up her third foul.
Iowa City West, now 16-1, pulled away in the third quarter to seal the victory.
Other bright moments Coach Settles noted were that the team wasn't afraid of anything and came out ready to play. She was also pleased with the team's perfect 14 for 14 free throw shooting for the contest.
Taylor Shull again went down with what appeared to be a slight knee injury in the last quarter. It is believed to be a mild strain and she iced it after the game. She had a similar problem early in the game last Friday against Fort Madison. Taylor finished the game tonight with 7 points.
The Panthers travel to West Branch Thursday night for a non-conference match up.
