Lakers Fall to Rivals
September 3, 2013By Dalton Schmidt of Lakeland High School
The Westview Warriors (3-1-1, 3-0 NECC) headed into LaGrange this past Saturday as they looked to defeat their long time rival Lakeland (1-3, 1-1 NECC) in boys’ soccer.
The match started out in one sided fashion as the Warriors came out and scored twice within the first ten minutes of the game, the second goal was off a PK. They would strike again in the 36th minute which would end up being the deciding goal in the match. Coming out of the half the Lakers saw a change in the goal as senior keeper Skyler Booth was replaced in favor of fellow senior Marco Olivares, this change may have been what the Lakers needed because Olivares shut out the Warriors for the rest of the game. With a new keeper the Lakers offense finally found its stroke as senior Dustin Cunnungham scored two goals in back to back minutes, one coming off the foot of Nick Byler. That’s all the Lakers could muster though as they fell just short as the clock hit 0, signeling the end of the game.
You can see your boy’s in action again today as they take on the West Noble Chargers in a sectional rematch from last year. The match will begin at 5:00 at home.
