Lakeland Netters Go 1-1 In Conference Play

The Lakeland Boys’ tennis team went 1-1 this week in NECC play Losing 1-4 to Churubusco, but winning 4-1 against Prairie Heights.
Tuesday the Lakers headed to Busco to take on the Eagles for their fisrt conference match of the season. The Lakers had a bad day as the only spot they won was a Busco forfeit. Afetr a hard practice lead by first year coach Kyle Ulrich the Lakers came out with purpose as the Prairie Heights Panthers rolled into LaGrange. Dalton Schmidt at #1 singles and, Sam Miller and Ian Sonner at #1 doubles both pulled off easy victories as Schmidt won 6-2, 6-1, while Miller and Sonner won 6-2, 6-2. Number 3 singles Cristian Roose secured the Laker victory with a thrilling 6-4, 7-6 (tie breaker 7-5) victory that made it 3-1, then Austin Buonocore at #2 singles pulled out a rough 7-5, 7-6 (tie breaker 7-5) win to place the Lakers up 4-1. The only loss for Lakeland was at the #2 doubles position with Anthony “Lefty” Combs and Austin Hoffelder losing 3-6, 4-6.
The Lakers head to Goshen this Saturday as they look for a victory over the Redskins. The match will begin at 10am with both Varsity and JV matches being played.
