Home » Boys' Basketball NewsLakers Finish 2-1 in NECC TourneyJanuary 11, 2013 By Chandler Mynhier of Lakeland High SchoolAfter their loss Wednesday night to West Noble, the Laker boys were able to mount a win against the Churubusco Eagles in the consolation game Thursday night by the score of 52-44. Lakeland held the Eagles to under ten points in each of the first three quarters. Busco made a run late, outscoring the Lakers 20-18 in the fourth quarter, but timely free throws ensured a Lakeland victory. Spencer Mortola lead the Lakers in scoring for the third night in a row with his 19 points. Junior Chandler Mynhier also added 10 points in the victory. With the win the Lakers finished 2-1 in the NECC tournament and will play Northwood next week in regular season play. The Laker girls also came out of Churobusco with a victory on Thursday night. The Lakers defeated the Eagles 42-29 in the NECC consolation game. Abi Thompson had 14 points in the win while Ashtin Kaminer and Becca Levitz added seven and six points. The Lady Lakers finished 1-1 in the tourney.
