Flight 234 Puts Lakers at 4-0

September 11, 2012
By William Kelly of Lakeland High School

Flight 234 took off with junior quarterback William Kelly and senior receiver T.J. Thompson as the pilots. The game against Angola High School on Friday night didn't take long to get started, as right away the Lakers slung the football all over the place. Rushing was still a key part of the Lakeland offense, as always. Joey Fuller churned out 91 yards on 16 attempts and Cory Troyer had 70 yards on only 8 attempts and also scored on a 47 yard touchdown pass from William Kelly. At the end of the first run-heavy drive, Kelly and Thompson connected on their first touchdown pass of the night. That was an 11 yard toss into the endzone to make the score 7-0 just minutes into the game. That pass would be the shortest in the Kelly-Thompson connection as they had 61 and 77 yard touchdown passes as well. Thompson finished the game with three touchdown receptions for 160 yards and Kelly finished with seven attempts and seven completions for 234 yards - averaging  over 30 yards per passing attempt. Once again, another tremendous effort from the defense as they shut out the Hornets through three quarters. This is becoming pretty familiar from the Lakers as they look to take home the conference title in October. The Lakers play the West Noble Chargers next Friday at home.
