Lakers Lose in Sectional Semi-Finals
May 30, 2012By Dalton Schmidt of Lakeland High School
The Lakeland baseball squad saw their season come to an end Monday when they lost to the Northwood Panthers 1-7. The Lakers played great defense throughout the game with no errors; but couldn't get their bats going, only having three hits and five base runners all game. The score was tied at zero going into the sixth when Northwood got two runners on second and third which were brought in with a suicide squeeze to score the first runs of the game. They would score twice more that inning and would add three more runs in the seventh. The Lakers lone run came in the bottom of the sixth when Hunter Sams stayed back on a curveball and doubled into left center, and later was brought in by Morgan Moore. Kelly was the starting pitcher for Lakeland going six innings allowing four runs on only six hits. The Lakers end their season with a 7-21 mark.
