Lakers Can't Hold Off Rally from Warriors in Opening Round Play
April 24, 2012By Tim Gonderman of Lakeland High School
The Lakeland Lakers met with the Westview Warriors for the second time this year on the diamond Monday night in the opening round game of NECC tournament play. Looking to avenge an 11-1 loss earlier in the season the Lakers came out of the gates hot but ultimately couldn't hold off a late rally from the Warriors, who went on to win the contest 13-8. The Lakers held a 7-6 lead going into the 5th inning where Westview broke for a 5 run inning capitalizing on a few Laker errors. Leading the Lakers on the mound was pitcher William Kelly going 4.2 innings with only 5 earned runs. At the plate the Lakers connected for 12 hits with Nick Byler going 3 for 4 with two runs scored. You can see your Lakers in action Thursday May 3rd at 5:00 pm as they play host to the Central Noble Cougars.
