AUSTAN KAS akas@h-ponline.com | Tuesday, March 13, 2012 ![]() Brianna McClellan, a senior pitcher for the Huntington North softball team, will continue her career at Ancilla Junior College.
“When I went for a visit there, I just loved the campus,” McClellan said. “I love the coaches, too. They are great. It just seemed like the right place for me.” McClellan will be the Vikings’ No. 2 pitcher this spring after going 4-1 with a 3.00 ERA last season. She fanned 36 batters in 35 innings. Huntington North coach Paris Seibold said big things lie ahead for McClellan. “I think she’s going to do really well,” Seibold said. “She’s probably the most improved pitcher I’ve ever coached. She’s gotten better every year. Her mechanics are good, and she works really hard. She definitely has earned the right to compete at that level.” McClellan’s best outing came against Kokomo. She struck out nine over seven dominant innings, allowing only an unearned run as the Vikes won, 9-1. “I think she’s got a lot of ability and potential to move on even beyond Ancilla,” said Ancilla coach Scott Reese. “I’m looking forward to having her for two years and seeing where she can go from there. “Not only is she a good pitcher who can really throw the ball hard,” he added, “but she’s a good teammate. I was really impressed watching the way she interacts with the rest of the team.” McClellan and ace Erin Rethlake will form a potent one-two punch for the Vikings. Huntington North won sectional and regional titles last spring and returns the nucleus from that team. “I’m really excited for this year,” McClellan said. “I know it’s going to be a great season. I really love being on this team.”
