Home » Boys' Basketball NewsNECC CHAMPS!!!!!!February 21, 2012 By Andrew Arndt of Fremont High SchoolThe Fremont Eagles beat the visiting Westview Warriors everyway possible on Tuesday night in the Eagle's Nest, including "The Whistler," who couldn't be heard over the raucous crowd chanting "WE ARE FREMONT!!" From the opening tip our fans and students were exceptionally loud and made our sixth man's voice heard. The team hit three quick threes to start the game and never looked back. The team never trailed and even led by as much as 54 to 35. The final tally of 54-37 was as sweet as could be because it meant that the Fremont Eagles ended a drought of 20 years to finally win a NECC League Title. Receiving many huge contributions from guys like Trevor Wirick and Austin Corcimiglia put the team over the top in this key matchup. Leading the Eagles was Jake Bryant who had 15 points, 3 boards, and 3 assists. Tyler Jenkins scored 14 points, grabbed 7 boards, and dished 3 dimes. Austin Corcimiglia scored 10 big points, grabbed 3 boards, and dished 2 dimes. Jordon Schmucker had 8 points, while Trevor Wirick had 5 points and 8 boards, finally Jon Verde finished out the scoring with 2 points and had 3 boards. The win put the team's overall record at 15-5, but more importantly the NECC record of 9-1. Great job Eagles!!! The junior varsity game was a tale of two halves. The team looked confused for much of the first half and struggled to do much of anything. However, the second half was much different as the team really shut down the visiting Westview team in the 3rd quarter while scoring 21 points itself. However, the team had dug too big of a hole as the final tally ended at 42 to 34 thanks to a last second steal and conversion by John Russell. Leading the Eagles was Alex Beams who had 13 points, Kaleb Hayes added 7, Nate Beatty played well and had 5 points and several steals and rebounds, Logan Peel added 3 points and a lot of boards. Finally, Tony LaRose and Seath Wiseman had 2 points each for the Eagles. The loss put the team's record at 6-13 overall, while the final NECC record was 5-5. The team will conclude their season on Friday in a game against Bethany Christian. Good luck Eagles.
