GG FC INV: #13 Center Grove upsets #6 Bloomington South on tiebreak

INDIANAPOLIS – The Center Grove girls golf team has met a challenging start head-on for a new season.

Beginning back in the first week of August up to now, the Trojans have competed in nine multi-team tournaments across the state -- north, south, east, and west. But Aug. 18, 13th-ranked Center Grove had its best outing of the year so far by winning the Franklin Central Invitational at Smock Golf Course.

Returning letterwinners Lauren Clute, Holly Paddack, and Jessica Geitner all helped lead the Trojans, who were declared victors on a fifth-player score after Center Grove and sixth-ranked Bloomington South each shot a 347. Avon (353) was third, with No. 18 Martinsville (355) fourth, No. 17 Roncalli (360) fifth, and Ben Davis (375) sixth.

Clute, the younger sister of graduated golfer and track & field letterwinner Sydney Clute, was low with an 83, while Paddack carded an 84 and Geitner finished with an 88. The team tie was broken by Center Grove's Victoria Boyer, who had a 92.

The Trojans will be back in action Aug. 22 when they take on Lawrence Central and second-ranked host Carmel. And the defending champion Trojans will be at Hickory Stick Golf Club Aug. 25 for the annual Johnson County Tournament.
