One of the many yearly traditional events in Menifee County is the Block Party, held on Back Street in Frenchburg, Ky. Kids of all ages come to get candy, and hang out with friends before going trick-or-treating and returning home. The Block Party gives kids a safer way to get some of their Halloween candy. The Block Party is a drug and alcohol free event sponsored by the Menifee County UNITE coalition. "UNITE is an intervention, education and prevention program developed by Congressman Hal Rogers to combat the illegal use of drugs in the 20 Eastern Kentucky counties he represents," said Lori Franklin, the Community Education Director & Public Relations Director. Various activities were available for people of all ages, no matter which county they came from. Some of these events included: music, games, prizes, and booths from churches and businesses. The Block Party was on October 30 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. The Block Party was a big success, having attracted around 500 children. Church members, local officials, and business owners passed out candy to the children who attended.
