The Northeast Jones soccer programs get under way Saturday at the Laurel Tournament at the Sportsplex, which will feature teams from all across the area. Both head coaches are excited about the upcoming season.

Northeast Jones Tigers

Matt Reid will be in his first year as the Tigers head soccer soccer coach, and is thrilled about the opportunity about coming home to coach his alma mater. "It's a dream come true," he said. "It's always special being able to coach the team you played for."

Reid is also excited to see how his team will be able to compete this season. "We have a couple of returning starters," he said. "We will be looking to Cole Byrd to give us some experience at midfield. We will also be looking for Kevin Jackson and JaMarcus Ducksworth to add some speed to the team. Jacob Livingston and Seth English will also be some key guys. Blake McBride will be our goalie, and he has been doing a good job for us."

The Tigers have one goal, and that is to make the playoffs. "We have one goal," he said. "We are aiming at a shot to make the playoffs. We are in a league with two other teams -- South Jones and Laurel -- so we are just aiming at the playoffs."

Lady Tigers

While the Lady Tigers lost some experience from last year's team, head Scott Tyson feels there will be some youth to step up up to help his squad. "We lost four starters from last years team," he said. "We have some youth from the seventh and eighth grade who will help us out. Those players are Morgan Mansell, Breanna Waller, Nichol DeHaan and Gabby Steve."

Tyson knows with the help of his older players, the Lady Tigers will be okay. "Morgan Pace is our team leader right now because she is a senior," he said. "Brooke Blackledge, Hayley Davidson, Katie Johnson and Callie Smith will also play some key roles for us."

The team's goal this season is to win the region. "Our team goal is to win the region crown," he said. "We are in a league with South Jones, Laurel and Purvis. It's a tough league, but our goal is to win it."
