Trojans Win Against Hialeah-Miami

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Hialeah-Miami Lakes 40, Westland Hialeah 0: Still stinging from a one-point loss to North Miami last week and an 0-2 start, coach Kenan Lawhorne and the Trojans took out their frustration on Westland Hialeah.

Led by running back Marcele Neat, who finished with 124 yards on 13 carries and quarterback Neil Anton (two rushing touchdowns and two TD passes), HML rolled to victory at Ted Hendricks Stadium.

Westland Hialeah was trying to ride the momentum of a 16-6 upset over Coral Park last week to give the first-year program a win in only its second game. But the Wildcats fell to 1-2 as the Trojans defense dominated, holding Westland to eight yards of total offense and two first downs.

``We definitely needed to gather a little bit of momentum and get things going in the right direction after the first two weeks, especially last week when we kind of gave one away,'' Lawhorne said of his team's 14-13 loss to North Miami. ``It's a good win for us and with them winning last week, we did not take them lightly. For them to already have a win in just their second time out was remarkable and he's [Westland coach Mike Manasco] doing a great job with those players. Even though the game was lopsided in the fourth quarter, they kept fighting and playing hard right to the end.''
