Oglethorpe County went to a Greene pasture to hire a new football coach and athletic director. Larry Milligan accepted an offer to move from Greene County to Oglethorpe County on Friday. He replaces Buddy Cain whose contract was not extended in January. "I\'m happy," Milligan said. "I enjoy the challenge of going to a new place working with new people. I\'m excited to get to work." Milligan coached at Greene County from 2001-2009. He led the Tigers to the Region 7-AA title in 2005, the first undefeated regular season in school history and five straight playoff appearances. "I\'m excited about it," Milligan said. "I\'m excited to have this opportunity. They\'ve got good kids and a good atmosphere. I\'m really going to enjoy working with them." Milligan had a 52-28 record in seven seasons at Greene County, including a 4-6 record last season. His high-water mark was 2005 when Greene County went 13-1 and advanced to the Class AA state semifinals before losing to Charlton County 34-33. Greene County had two-time first-team all-state quarterback Josh Nesbitt, who was named offensive player of the year as a junior in 2005. Milligan coached for four seasons at Madison County from 1990-1993 before moving to Greene County. He has an 11-year overall record of 68-52. Milligan does not start full time at Oglethorpe County until the beginning of the 2009-10 school year, but he plans to be on Oglethorpe County\'s campus daily and should begin spring practice in early May. Milligan will be a high school special education teacher, in addition to his duties as head football coach and athletic director. |
