Kings Mountain jumped out to a 26-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back on the way to a 49-14 triumph over Chase Friday in the Southwestern 2A/3A Conference opener for both squads.

The Mountaineers (4-3, 1-0 SWC) will take a three-game winning streak into next Friday's game against Cleveland County rival Shelby.

"This game got us off to a good start," KM head coach Greg Lloyd said. "We've improved since the start of the season. We're going to have to keep improving if we're going to have a chance. We're a confident team, and we're learning our roles. We're excited to play every week."
The Mounties turned in a balanced offensive effort as five different players got in the end zone. Michael Roberts (59 yards, 1 yard) and Carlos Bell (5 yards, 37 yards) had two rushing scores each, while Joe Chambers (2 yards) had a short-yardage touchdown.

Roberts connected with Terrance Young (20 yards) and Devon Thompson (7 yards) for passing scores. Houston Lattimore booted a 32-yard field goal for Kings Mountain.
Young had 99 yards on five catches to lead the receiving corps. Roberts was 6-of-9 through the air for 106 yards and rushed for 66 yards. Bell (64 yards, six carries) and Chambers (60 yards, 16 carries) also had solid rushing games.

Chase (2-5, 0-1 SWC) lost six fumbles on the night.
"We were pretty balanced," Lloyd said. "Chase played hard on defense. It wasn't easy. Our defense played good and forced some turnovers. That gave us some short fields."
