Home » Girls' Basketball NewsIT'S MY TIME!!!!!!!!!!!October 3, 2011 North Edgecombe High SchoolThe fourth year has arrived and it is setting up to be a great one for senior center Jasmine Downing here at North Edgecombe. The 6'2 basketball star is more prepared than ever. She spent the off season working on her game and believes that basketball camp at Old Dominion University has prepared her to have an outstanding season. "I've worked really hard to improve my game, I'm believing that I have up'ed my game and this is my time," stated the tall slim player. Four year starter and leader of the Warrior's girls, she is set to lead them in pursuit of a state title. This could prove to be the year of the Warrior with four returning starters and the hustle of G/F Cierra Franklin. Coach Vines sure has a winner in his corner, the challenge will be can he move and coach them to the next level. The team is excited and anxiously await the start of the season. The "Twins", as they are called look even more fit and prepare as gear up for the season. "If we play hard, play as a team, and remain focused, we should win," Shanika Scott said. Jasmine is focused and I could see it in her eyes while I interviewed her. "I am a better player and leader, and the skills I learned at camp will significantly improve my play, I've got to get the ball inside where I can use my height to our advantage," exclaimed Downing. The very soft spoken and sincere response to questions reveal her character and if the Warriors are to win she has to play the inside with fervor. Downing stated that she is interested in playing at the next level. Already receiving visits, calls and letters, she is excited about her prospects
