The Northern Nash Knights couldn't stay dry in the rainy weather Thursday, but they found a way to defeat the Nash Central Bulldogs, 9-2.
After each inning, the rain only got heavier and the coaches said they found it best to call the game after six innings.
"The conditions were definitely a factor, there's no question about that," Northern Nash coach Eddie Loesner said. "We called the game because we were thinking of the best interest for the kids. We don't want anyone getting seriously hurt."
Despite the rain, the Knights (6-4, 2-2 NEW 6) had profound success hitting the ball, led by Tyler Clark's 3-for-4, three-RBI performance.
The Knights' pitcher Brandon Denton had success on and off the plate, driving in a run on a sacrifice fly and striking out six batters in six innings.
The Bulldogs (4-9, 1-3) had an early lead after A.J. Andrews and Dominique Holloway had back-to-back RBI in the second, but lost the lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Trailing in the top of the sixth, Holloway hit a routine infield fly for an out, and Bill Clark was caught advancing to third to end the inning.
The Bulldogs' coaches argued the result of the play, but their arguments fell upon deaf ears and the play stood.
The bottom of the sixth saw the Knights score three more runs, off of hits from Clark and Mike Williams.
"I felt that we had a good approach coming to the plate," Loesner said. "Given the conditions, the boys had a great performance."
