The result meant the Wildcats have earned the prestigious right to compete in the state meet. Bunn assured itself of that status with a fourth-place regional finish, with the Top Four clubs earning state positions. The Wildcats finished with 110 points to claim a spot in this Saturday's Class 2-A State Championships at Tanglewood Park near Winston-Salem. Bunn's points scorers from the regionals were as follows:
Franklinton's Red Rams were in 10th place with 276 points, while Louisburg was in 13th place with 320 points. Franklinton's top runner was Travis Eaton, who claimed the 27th position at 19:43.75. Leading the way for Louisburg was Stephen Davis in the 41st slot at 20:36.81. Carrboro was the winner of the boys event at 30 points, followed by Cedar Ridge (61), Pittsboro Northwood (67) and Bunn (110). In girls action, Carrboro also stole the show with 19 points, followed by Northwood (60), Cedar Ridge (89) and Northern Carolina Conference champion Roanoke Rapids (98). That means the Lady Jackets will also represent the NCC at the states. Franklinton's girls were ninth at 259 points, while Bunn was in the 11th position at 292 points. Franklin County's top girls finisher was Franklinton's Jessica Johnson, who took 37th place at 24:35.97. Right behind Johnson was Louisburg's Kim Baker, who offered a strong 38th-place showing at 24:42.69. LHS' Zoe Hinton, a freshman, was 50th at 26:05.34, and Bunn's Courtney McLaughlin was 56th at 26:41.47. BHS teammate Toni Franklin was 59th at 26:58.75.
