Home » Girls' Basketball NewsLady Jets roll into Courier-Tribune finalDecember 23, 2009 Jordan Matthews High SchoolMylia Garner tied a career-best 30 points to ignite Jordan-Matthews to a 63-45 victory over Providence Grove in semi-final round action of the 19th Annual The Courier-Tribune Christmas Invitational Tournament at Asheboro High School on Tuesday night. The Lady Jets (11-1) advance to battle Trinity in the finals on Wednesday evening at 8:00 p.m. The Bulldogs downed Asheboro 61-56 in overtime on Tuesday night to earn the right to battle J-M for the tourney crown. The championship finale will be a rematch of the 1997 title contest one by Trinity 46-35. Jordan-Matthews used a 17-10 surge in 2nd quarter and an 18-8 run in the 3rd to pull away for the victory. Garner, who had 14 rebounds as well in the win, was aided by 10 points from Aquilla Mateen, 7 from Courtney Brown, and 6 apiece from Chrsitie Spivey and Lauren Turner. Providence Grove was led by 13 points from Erin Mixon while Kristie Langley netted 10 and Logan Hardin and Casey Haithcox 8 apiece for the Patriots (8-6).
