Home » Girls' Basketball NewsLady Barons lose district openerJanuary 24, 2010 By Michael Moseley of Bluestone High SchoolWith two of the Lady B's "Big 3" missing from action, on Wednesday night, Bluestone struggled to play a consistent game and get any kind of offense going. Baron senior, Angelique Sturdifen, had another masterful game, scoring 26. But with Dominique Osborne and Jenna DeSantis out of the line-up, A. Sturdifen had to work extra hard just to get open looks. The game, if nothing else, showed that these ladies (A. Sturdifen, DeSantis, and Osborne) are the core of the team and that the other players on the team have to step up their play. Several times in the first quarter, Sturdifen was able to find open team-mates. And what should have been easy buckets for them, more than not, turned into missed opportunities. For Powhatan, they came with their own "3", led by guard, Hanna Livermon. This young lady has serious handles and did a good job of pacing her offense. Powhatan's Hana Davis basically shut down the inside and some of the battles between she and Sturdifen were quite entertaining to watch. At times the #3 person looked like Alexis Flippen and at other times it was Marisha Berry or Jessie Harris. Osborne and DeSantis will return to action today for Bluestone. The game has the Lady B's off to a 0-1 start in the district with Powhatan at 1-0.
