December 5, 2012By Doug Erlien of Heritage Christian Academy Boys Basketball
Metro Tech Academy (2-0) vs. #7 Heritage Christian Academy
The Eagles come in fresh off their 80-41 opening night win over Central MN Christian. HCA used a balanced attack offensively and a amped up pressure defense late in the 1st half and into the 2nd half for the win.
About Metro Tech:
This is the first year the school is playing varsity basketball. Head coach Jamil Jackson comes over from Prairie Seeds Academy where his team defeated the Eagles in overtime to win the section 4A title a season ago. A couple of key players made the journey with him. Dominick Jackson scored 8 points in the championship game a year ago, but has been an offensive force in the two games for Metro Tech this year averaging 24.5 points per game to lead the team.
While the seniors and starters led the way, the bench came through with big buckets. The reserves accounted for 19 points in the season opener.
Injuries Bite Early:
Senior guard Evan Parkhurst broke his right hand in the season opener and will miss tonights game. With Evan out of the lineup, junior Spenser Bland, senior Cole Peterson and junior Andy Hamilton will need to step up.
"Excited? No, at least not more than for any of our games. ‘Eager?’ Yes—to see further amplification of where we are and what we need to improve."- head coach Tim Herman on the home opener against section foe Metro Tech.
The Eagles went 12-2 at home last season. The only two losses came to Maranatha and Lakeview Christian.
