ORLANDO, Fla. – The Winona State softball team ended its trip to Florida with two games that ended with walk-off hits, winning the opener 7-6 over American International before falling to St. Thomas Aquinas 3-2.
Box Score vs. American International Box Score vs. St. Thomas Aquinas The Warriors trailed American International 6-3 entering the bottom of the seventh inning. Morgan Lintz pulled WSU to within two with a solo home run with WSU then loading the bases thanks to an error and singles by Jessica Kullmann and Shannon Nelson. Reed Karsten followed with a two-run single to tie the game and scored the game-winning run on a throwing error by the American International centerfielder. Ashley Walker also had an RBI hit in the game for Winona State, with the other two Warrior runs coming thanks to American International miscues. Karsten finished the game with three hits in five at bats while also scoring the game-winning run. The Warriors jumped out to an early lead in their game against St. Thomas Aquinas, scoring two runs in the top of the first as Walker and Lintz each recorded an RBI. St. Thomas Aquinas would get its first run of the game in the sixth inning and scored twice more in the bottom of the seventh to walk away with the win. Brooke Piotrowski, Walker and Kullmann each recorded two hits on the game for the Warriors. Winona State is now 13-3 on the season and will travel to Wisconsin-Parkside for a doubleheader beginning at 3 pm on Thursday.
