After defeating a young, but talented Beaver Dam team 3-0 in the WIAA Sectional Semi Final, the Panthers are state bound for the second consecutive year. The Panthers will face off against Germantown, also a #1 seed, in the state quarterfinal at Goodman Diamond in Madison at approximately 3: 30pm on June 14. SPASH got a huge home run from Parris Kurszewski to give SPASH a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the sectional final. The home run came with two outs in the inning and gave the Panthers momentum against the Golden Beavers’ four-year starter, pitcher Nicole Schmidt. After the fireworks from Kurszewski, it was the Carly Lass show. SPASH added a run when Lass led off with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice by Katelyn Shuda. Lass then scored on a suicide squeeze play by Taylor Smola, giving SPASH a 2-0 lead. Lass struck again in the fifth inning when she led off with a single, stole second and later scored on a Smola single giving Spash a 3-0 lead. Angela Lange was in complete control pitching for the second game in a row. She pitched a three-hit shut out, sending SPASH to state for the fourth time in five years and the 10th time in 13 years. Lange struck out two and walked only one in seven innings of work. “We played great defense again today and our players made plays in big situations,” said SPASH head coach Tom Drohner. ”Angela pitched a great game and Carly Lass was unbelievable for us once again. We are looking forward to the challenge (at state).” SPASH Box:
