Stevens Point– If it seems like it wasn’t all that long ago that the SPASH Panthers played Oshkosh West in the first round of the WIAA softball sectional, that’s because it wasn’t that long ago.  The two teams faced off last year in the sectional semi-finals in tropical heat and humidity at Zenoff Park in Stevens Point.  SPASH is hoping that the outcome of this year’s contest against the Wildcats will be a carbon copy of last year’s result.  SPASH won that game 2-0.

There is no question that the Wildcats will provide a stiff test for the defending state champions.

Oshkosh West compiled a 12-6 record in the Fox Valley Association this year and are 17-8 overall.  They are coached by John Kloehn.  Kloehn was unavailable for comment on this article.

The Wildcats have a couple of victories of note this year, including a 13-5 win over perennial softball powerhouse Kaukauna on April 27, and a 1-0 victory over Kimberly on May 15.  They lost twice to a very good Appleton North team, both by the score of 1-0.  Even a cursory look at West’s schedule reveals that they can compete with just about anybody.
