Wisconsin Rapids–Stevens Point traveled to Wisconsin Rapids to take on the Red Raiders of Lincoln High School. The Red Raiders sent freshman pitcher Allison Brost to the mound to face SPASH junior pitcher Angela Lange. It was a very close game after 4 innings, but the third time around, Point’s dangerous lineup figured out Brost, and the rout was on.
Junior Carly Lass hit leadoff for Point and went 5-5 with 3 runs scored, and two stolen bases.
“Carly is an out standing hitter. You can not cheat on her,” said SPASH head coach Tom Drohner.
“I was in the mood to play. I can tell you one thing it feels really good to have the big hitters behind me in the lineup,” said Carly Lass.
Besides Lass’s table setting, Heather Woyak hit with a home run, and another long fly ball off the top of the wall in left center, and Taylor Smola also went yard for Point. Point scored one in the first, three in the fifth, five in the 6th, and added two more in the 7th.
Megan Melville lead off with a solo homerun in the 6th to account for Rapids’ run.
Give credit to Red Raider pitcher Allison Brost, who worked out of some early jams and kept the game close for Rapids until the SPASH hitters figured her out.
“Early on in the game we were feeling Rapids’ pitcher out. As the game went deeper we had some better at bats. We were able to wear Rapids down with our speed and power. There is no better 3,4,5 hitters in the state as they have 85 RBI on the season,” said coach Tom Drohner.
With the win SPASH, improves 7-1 in the Valley Conference, and 13-4 overall. With the loss Rapids falls to 5-4 in the Valley, and 8-5 overall. SPASH hosts second place D.C.Everest Friday night, start time 4:00 pm.
Raider notes: Wisconsin Rapids hosts the Rapids invite Saturday, start time 10:00 am. I urge you to come out to the Rapids invite to get a glimpse of some hard playing ball, and good food.
