After a deflating loss to Wausau West on Friday night that ended SPASH’s remarkable run of dominance in the Valley Conference, SPASH rebounded in tournament action on Saturday, beating Homestead by the score of 6-3, then, a seminal moment for the defending state champs, knocking off Chippewa Falls convincingly. The final score of the SPASH-Chippewa Falls game was 10-0. Going into this weekend’s contest, Chippewa Falls was ranked #1 by Wissports.net, while SPASH held the #10 spot. In the Homestead game, Shelby Fields, Carly Lass and Megan Roth each had three hits. Heather Woyak was 2-4 with a run and one RBI. After disposing of Homestead, SPASH was able to avenge a loss to Chippewa Falls suffered last weekend in the Ashwaubenon tournament. SPASH won handily, scoring 10 runs in six innings to gain the victory. Nicki Hauser was 4-4 with one home run and four RBI, while Shelby Fields continued her torrid hitting going 2-3 with two runs, Carly Lass contributed two hits and two runs and junior phenom Heather Woyak hit a home run and drove in three. Not to be overlooked is the performance of Angela Lange, who as been hampered by a lingering back injury this season. Lange allowed only two hits in six innings of work to pick up the win for SPASH. It has been a rollercoaster couple of days for SPASH softball. This is a breaking story, stay tuned to CWS for more information on this tournament as it becomes available to us.
