Eric Dockins’ expectations remain high despite missing his senior season to knee injury. In August, the Broken Bow running back was being courted by Oklahoma, Air Force, Oklahoma State and Tulsa.
The injury, though, has cooled interest.
“I’m kind of waiting around for someone to call and nobody has,” Dockins said. “Coach (Greg) Werner and I talked and I decided I will go to NEO. I could stay one year and move on. I have the grades to get into a four-year school.
“It’s been kind of a surprise that everyone backed off and then it really isn’t. I just want the opportunity to show what I can do.”
Dockins said he expects to be 100 percent by fall. He currently is playing basketball for the Savages, showing little effects of a partial tear to his tibial collateral ligament.
“I have some trouble but not much,” he said.
As a junior, he rushed for 1,150 yards and 18 touchdowns.
He regrets the injury sidelined him for his senior year.
“It was super hard not getting to play,” he said. “I could have helped my team a lot. We had a downslide and I know I could have helped.”
Dockins said he can’t wait to get back on the field.
“I could have helped our team,” Dockins said. “It fuels my fire to prove to everyone that I am healthy.”
