Fran Schnarr Meet Recap
January 28, 2013By Jonathan Sorocki of Gateway Swimmers
This past weekend, a small contingent of Gateway Swimmers attended the Fran Schnarr Memorial Sprint Meet. As Mr. Finkelstein said, Fran Schnarr was an avid supporter of swimming and the meet was held in her honor. It is always a pleasure to honor someone’s memory and I’m glad we could be a part of it. Of the 13 swimmers, 10 were freshmen.
Congratulations to David Abramov, Thomas Hur, Justin Tan, and Jay Ye for attending their first meet!
For the 3 Juniors, Angelina Zhang won the 50 Fly and made the Zone Time for both 50 Fly and 100 IM! Grace Chang made the Silvers time for the 100 IM. Thomas completed both the 50 Free and 50 Breast without getting DQ’d and posted a 32.99 for the 50 Free. Good job, Juniors!
For the Freshmen, George scored 46 power points for the 50 Breast, up from 1 at the last meet. David swam the 50 Free in 39.13, a good time. Cyrus nailed his first 50 Breast with a time of 47.22. Justin also did well in the 50 Breast with a time of 49.18. Joey came closer to the 40 second barrier for the 50 Free. Carissa improved in both the 50 Free and 50 Back. Jay swam all 3 events without a DQ and with good results, 41.15 for the 50 Free. Alton and Adriana learned a valuable lesson about eating breakfast before meets.
But the best performance of any Gateway Swimmer at the meet was Briana Liew. Briana made a “B” time for each event. Her 50 Free time was 39.32, another sub-40 time, and her 50 Breast was nearly Silvers with the official time of 50.02 only 1.5 seconds away!
Overall, great job, swimmers! Keep working hard!
