8th Annual Buckets for Breast Cancer Event
January 17, 2014Andover Girls Basketball
The Andover Girls Basketball team announces the 8th Annual Buckets for Breast Cancer event. At this event, players from the entire AHS girls’ basketball program earn funds for two causes: breast cancer research, support, and education, and to earn funds for the Mary Jo Claus Basketball Scholarship Fund.
The Mary Jo Claus Scholarship Fund was established in 2006, in honor and recognition of Mary Jo and her family who helped to develop the basketball programs in the Andover Community when our high school was established.
Scholarships from this Fund are presented to girls’ basketball players and managers who have shown excellence in academics, athletics, and community service. 70% of the net funds earned support this scholarship fund.
This event is also a breast cancer awareness event. This year, 30% of the net funds earned will be used to benefit breast cancer patients in need at Mercy & Unity Hospitals.
On Saturday February 8th, players from Andover High School girls’ basketball program will be attempting 100 free throws for our Buckets for Breast Cancer Event. Team members are taking pledge forms to the community and asking for support, each sponsor can pledge a flat rate or a set amount for each shot made. (Example: $.50 pledge for a player shooting 70 out of 100 would result in a $35 donation).
The players will need to bring sponsor forms to the event, and all funds will need to be collected and returned prior to February 28th
Just to raise the competition level on this event we decided to hand out a few prizes for the top fundraisers. Awards for top fundraisers will be:
1st prize - $50
Prizes will be awarded after the free throw contest has been completed and all funds have been collected.
