Home » Track & Field NewsSchedule of Events for Track Meets & ScoringApril 12, 2012 By Laura Ness of East Ridge Track & FieldWhenever possible (when the coaches receive schedules from the meets), we will post them in the documents section. However, we don't always receive a formal schedule. Below is a typical order of events for track meets. Keep in mind, each meet is different and will have variations to this schedule and a different number of heats for each event. Running Events 4 x 100m Relay 1600m Run 400 m Dash 100m Dash 110m (boys), 100m (girls) High Hurdles 800m Run 200m Dash 300m Intermediate Hurdles 3200m Run 4 x 400m Relay Field Events The field events, which include the jumps (high, long, triple, pole vault) and the throwing event (discus, shot put), will typically begin first and continue on throughout the track meet. Usually one event is run right after the other but the time that each event takes will depend on the number of athletes participating. Obviously, on a six-lane track, only six athletes can compete in the 100m Dash at a time so it is typical that there will be several heats run for that event before the next event is run. For this reason, it is sometimes hard to gauge the exact schedule of a track meet.
Scoring In both the Conference and Section meets, eight (8) places shall be scored, with point totals counting as follows: First Place = 10 points Second Place = 8 points Third place = 6 points Fourth Place = 5 points Fifth Place = 4 points Sixth Place = 3 points Seventh Place = 2 points Eighth Place = 1 point
NOTE: When there is a tie, the points will be divided equally among the contestants who are tied.
