Last Thursday, October 4th, the East Ridge Girls Swim and Dive team swam against conference rival Mounds View. Mounds View won the meet 108-76, making the meet the second straight dual meet loss for East Ridge. Despite the loss, the Raptors did pull off a number of first place finishes, both in the varsity and junior varsity races. The junior varsity relay team of Samantha Somnang, Erin Plourde, Lynnae Boe, and Madelyn Carpentier won the first race of the meet, the junior varsity 200 medley relay. Maddy Peters earned the first varsity win for East Ridge, with a time of 2:00.64 in the 200 freestyle. Sara Press and Meredith Ubel won the junior varsity and varsity 50 freestyle races respectively. Press with a time of 28.63 and Ubel with a -new pool record- time of 25.40. East Ridge’s junior varsity girls continued winning races as the meet continued, winning five out of seven events in the second part of the meet. Marissa Burleigh won the JV 100 butterfly with a time of 1:15.22, Boe won the JV 500 with a time of 6:08.74, and Somnang won the JV 100 backstroke with a time of 1:15.05. The JV relay teams in the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams (Plourde, Taylor Blatchford, Allison Bugel, and Boe in the 200 freestyle relay and Plourde, Taylor Karrow, Bugel and Kelly Burnham in the 400 freestyle relay) also won their races. In the varsity races, Lindsey Lewis won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:24.67, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Peters, Lewis, Taylor Johnson, and Ubel won their race with a time of 3:48.11. Mclaren Curphy of Mounds View was the second swimmer of the night (after Ubel’s 50 freestyle) to break a pool record. She broke the 100 backstroke pool record previously held by Hastings’s Kate Reilly (1:03.06) with a new time of 1:01.94. Next week the Raptors will travel to swim against the Wolfpack of Park High School. The meet will be at Cottage Grove Middle School on Thursday, October 11th, at 6:00 pm.
