HOOPS ROUNDUP: Tiger boys drop opener against E. Jessamine
December 8, 2011Bardstown High School
Defending 5th Region champ Bardstown suffered a loss in its season opener Saturday, falling 64-62 to East Jessamine in the Whitaker Bank 12th Region Showcase at Mercer County.
The Jaguars (3-0) built a seven-point first quarter lead, only to watch the Tigers come back and cut it to 34-33 at halftime. Bardstown (0-1) fell behind by six going into the fourth quarter and couldn’t make up the difference.
“We didn’t come out with that high intensity we normally come out with,” Tigers coach James “Boo” Brewer said. “They had a great game plan.”
Brewer said his team didn’t rebound well and struggled to play good team defense.
“We can’t have that,” he said.
Bardstown point guard Anthony Myrks was in foul trouble the whole game and was limited to less than 10 minutes on the floor and five points, forcing Jordan Brewer to slide over to the point. Guard Marcus Cosby was also saddled with foul trouble and held to seven.
Brewer and Cody Ramos led all scorers with 16 points apiece. The Jaguars had five players hit double-figure scoring, led by Timmy Bradshaw’s 15.
Bardstown hosted Caverna after press time Tuesday night, and the Tigers will be in action Friday at John Hardin at 7:30 p.m.
