HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Local boys win Border Battle track meet

Bardstown athletes won 10 of the 18 events in Wednesday’s second annual Border Bowl track meet pitting Nelson County schools against their Bullitt County counterparts, leading the local boys to a runaway win in the team competition.
Brandon Price had a big day, capturing three individual events as well as anchoring the Tigers’ 4x400 relay squad to a win.
In the girls’ competition, Bullitt East led the way for the Bullitt schools, scoring 133 points and winning eight events.
Nelson County’s Brianna Harman (shot put) and Kaylee Hall (discus) each grabbed firsts, as did Bardstown’s Emily Bowling, who cleared 8-06 in the pole vault to better her fourth-place mark at state last year.
Jarrett Mattingly won the 3200 for Thomas Nelson’s lone event win, while Jared Newton (110 hurdles) and Christian McMillan (100-meter dash) got wins for Nelson County. McMillan also anchored the Cardinals’ 4x200 relay-winning squad.
Dallan Goldring won the triple jump and 300 hurdles for the Tigers, and placed second in the long jump. Bardstown throwers had a strong day as well, with Julian Rogers and Luke Cecil going 1-2 in the shot put and JayQuez Smith leading the way as Bardstown took the top five spots in the discus.
