Keanu Young scored nine of his game-high 21 points during a critical fourth-quarter run Tuesday, helping Bardstown turn back Bethlehem, 52-39.
The Tigers (17-5) had led by double digits in the first half, but the Eagles (8-12) scratched their way back into it in the third quarter. Bethlehem got a three by Derek Goode and free throws from Zack Coniff and Jude Hutchins to pull within 34-32 with 5:45 left to play.
That’s when Bardstown shook out of its doldrums and unleashed a 16-1 run over the next four minutes, stretching its lead out to 50-33 before a pair of Wyatt Hagan free throws temporarily stopped the bleeding, but by that point it was too late.
“We were playing kind of sluggish,” Young said. “We just had to settle down and play our game.”
Young hit a three and scored three fast-break buckets during the run. He ended up with three three-pointers during the game. Goode hit three threes and scored nine for the Eagles, who were led by Hutchins’ 11 points.
The win wrapped up an 8-0 regular season in district play for the Tigers, who will be the top seed when the tournament kicks off Feb. 24 at Bethlehem. The Eagles fell to 4-4 in district games and will take on Thomas Nelson (14-9, 4-3 dist.) in the 2-3 seed game.
