Student-Athlete of the Week

By Peter W. Zubaty, Sports Editor

Bardstown soccer player Zach Kahleifeh is this week’s nominee for The Kentucky Standard/PLG-TV 13 Student-Athlete of the Week.

Zach is a junior and carries a 3.8 GPA, and in addition to soccer he is also a standout on the Tiger cross-country and track squads, as well as being involved in several clubs on campus, including FCA, Pep Club and Key Club.

Kentucky Standard sports editor Peter W. Zubaty had a few questions for Zach to better get to know him.

PZ: Do you know where you would like to go to college? What do you plan to study and why?

ZK: I’ve been looking strongly at the University of Kentucky because of their Pre-Med program. My father has always been pushing me towards the medical field and I ended up loving it.

PZ: What’s your favorite TV show?

ZK: My favorite show would be House M.D

PZ: What got you started in soccer?

ZK: My parents got me started with soccer when I was 3 and I was hooked on it ever since.

PZ: What’s your favorite song/album? Who’s your favorite band/artist?

ZK: My favorite song right now would be so hard to breathe by B.O.B.  My favorite artist is J. Cole.

PZ: What do you enjoy most about soccer?

ZK: I enjoy the challenge of becoming the best I can be. Soccer just brings out the competitive spirit in me and I love it!

PZ: What’s your favorite — soccer or running — and why?

ZK: I would have to say soccer is my favorite because of the team orientation that’s involved with it. I make great friends from every school in the county from playing soccer.

PZ: Do you have a favorite pre-match meal?

ZK: My usual Pre-match meal is a bag of Sour Patch Straws, a bag of Skittles and a Gatorade.

PZ: What does it mean to you to be a leader for your team?

ZK: First off, it’s a great opportunity to be called a leader. To me being leader means I respect my teammates and try to guide them to become the best player they can be.

PZ: How tough is it juggling schoolwork, sports and other activities?

ZK: At times it gets rough especially because of the tough courses I have this year. I always think about the reward when times get stressful and push forward.

PZ: What do you do when you have some precious free time away from school and sports?

ZK: When I get a free moment I enjoy hanging out with all my friends, going to the movies, and playing some FIFA.
