Bardstown will have two entries in action Thursday when play begins in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s State Tennis Championships in Lexington.

Bardstown’s Clayton Brooks makes a second trip to the state tournament, this time as an entrant in the boys’ singles draw. Brooks made it to state last year with doubles partner John Stone.

On Thursday at the Hilary Boone Tennis Center at the University of Kentucky, Brooks has a first-round matchup with Hopkinsville’s Grey Campbell, a junior, at 9:15 a.m. Should Brooks get the win, he would then face the winner of the first-round match featuring Oneida Baptist’s Barnabas Kim and Covington Catholic’s Austin Hussey, the No. 5 seed. That second-round match would be at 1:15 p.m. Friday.

Also making it for a second straight year is Bardstown junior Anna Jones, who teamed up with classmate Riley Smith to earn a berth. Jones got to state last year with teammate Gabi Hamilton.

Jones and Smith have the last first-round match of the day Thursday, and they got no favors from the seeding committee, drawing No. 2 seed Haley Dallas and Elizabeth Skinner of state powerhouse Lone Oak at 2:15 p.m. at Shillito Park in south Lexington. Should they pull the upset, Jones and Smith would face the winner of Mercer County’s Mary Baxter and Catheryne Claunch against Letcher Central’s Sydney Back and Erica Meade.

Admission is $10 per day or $15 for both days. All Friday matches are at UK.
