Bardstown senior point guard Anthony Myrks, who helped guide the Tigers to the Sweet 16 last year and the finals of the All A Classic this year, was voted Player of the Year by the 5th Region Coaches Association, garnering 16 votes. He narrowly beat out former teammates Kyle Sheeran and Kelton Ford of LaRue County for top honors. Myrks wasn’t the only local to be so honored, however. Artie Braden, in his second year back on the sidelines at Bethlehem, was voted Coach of the Year by his peers. The Eagles have rolled up a 20-4 record thus far this season and are the top seed in the boys’ 19th District tournament, which starts Wednesday at Bardstown. Also making the boys’ All-Region team were Bardstown guards Jordan Brewer, senior, and Devonte Grundy, junior, as well as Bethlehem senior guard Jalen Phillips. Only one local girl made the list, Nelson County junior center Cierra Drake. Green County’s Micah Jones was voted girls’ Player of the Year, while Elizabethtown coach Tim Mudd garnered Coach of the Year honors. Courtesy of Peter W. Zubaty, the Kentucky Standard
