Lakers hungry for title

News Herald report • April 1, 2010

Chris Matta replaces Gene Peluso as Danbury softball coach.

Senior Kelcie McGhee has experience as the Lakers' primary pitcher . Morgan Scott could also provide innings.

Seniors Heather Bahnsen (second base), Taylor Brown (third base ), Devin Pollock (catcher) and Tiffany Seamon (right field) are also returning starters.

"Our team is very determined and has been working very hard in the offseason to not only love the game, but learn it," Matta said. "We have an empty league banner hanging in our gym that eats away at our seniors. They are very hungry to change that this year.

"They will accept nothing less than a TAAC championship ... and that's the mindset they need to pull it off."

  • Coach: Chris Matta

  • Last year: 7-8, 4-4 TAAC

  • Returners: Kelcie McGhee, senior, pitcher; Devin Pollock, senior, catcher; Tori England, junior, shortstop; Heather Bahnsen, senior, second base; Taylor Brown, senior, third base; Meggie Oglesbee, senior, left field, shortstop; Caitlyn Biro, senior, center field; Tiffany Seamon, senior, right field; Morgan Scott, junior, pitcher; and Sam Molnar, senior, second base, left field.

  • Newcomers: Sam Stewart, junior, first base; and Felecia Beverick, junior, catcher.

  • Outlook: Danbury returns 10 letter winners and seven starters. Stewart will start at first base and Oglesbee in left field while Beverick and Molnar should be key reserves. Cardinal Stritch and Ottawa Hills are preseason conference favorites.
