The Lady Eagles were determined to battle their way to the district championship and that is exactly what they did. They played Albany on Wednesday, Octob er 9. The girls hit well early and often, building a lead they never relinquished and winning 14-1.
They faced South Nodaway in the semi-final game on Thursday. Again, the girls dispatched the Longhorns easily 10-0. This led them to the finals where they faced the Stanberry Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs scored first in the second inning, putting across two runs. However, the Eagles answered back when Brooklyn Stoll launched a home run over the fence and tied the game 2-2. In the fifth inning, Jessie Henry crushed a ball almost to the same spot as Stoll's earlier home run which put the Lady Eagles up 4-2. The Bulldogs weren't going away quietly, though. In their next at-bat, they brought a run across to pull within one. That was as close as they got as freshman pitcher Sarah Chor and the Eagle defense shut Stanberry down in the final two innings giving Jefferson a well-deserved district championship.
In the sectional game, the girls traveled to Princeton to take on the Lady Tigers. The girls cruised to a 15-1 victory, setting up their trip to the quarterfinal match where they faced Maysville.
Jefferson had played the Wolverines in a tournament during the regular season and won so they knew that this last hurdle to state was within their reach. Early on, the Lady Eagles had trouble getting solid hits. Maysville was able to score early, and the Jefferson girls struggled to put together an offensive assault ending their state bid with a 7-0 loss.
