I GUESS I NEED TO KEEP UPPING THE FONT, BOLDNESS, ITALICS, AND UNDERLINING BECAUSE YOU BOYS NEVER SURPRISE ME ANYMORE. ON MAY 1ST WE TOOK OUR UNDEFEATED CONFERENCE MATCH RECORD AGAINST THE 7-1 PARKWAY SOUTH PATRIOTS. BOTH TEAMS SLIPPED PAST A TOUGH LINDBERGH AND OTHER POWERFUL CONFERENCE FOES. HOWEVER, WHEN THE SMOKE WAS CLEARED AND THE MATCH WAS COMPLETE, WE HAD SOME OF THE MOST AMAZING SHOTS, AND SCORES, I HAVE EVER SEEN AS A GOLF COACH. ZACH GOLLWITZER FINISHED WITH A 5 UNDER PAR ON THE BACK NINE OF THE LANDINGS BY SHOOTING AN AMAZING 31/ PAR 36. FRANKIE THOMAS FINISHED 2 UNDER PAR WITH HIS 34. DILLON JONES WASN'T FAR BEHIND WITH HIS POSTED 39 AND THE OTHERS WERE RIGHT BEHIND WITH A 40 (RYAN DEAN), 41 (AUSTIN SCHETTLER), 42 ADAM SILVERSTONE, WITH SAM BROWN AND TROY BROCAW FINISHING IN THE MID-FORTIES. SOUTH HAD THREE PLAYERS SHOOT EVEN PAR AND WE STILL BEAT THEM BY THREE STROKES. ONCE AGAIN... IT WAS A TOTAL TEAM EFFORT! THANK YOU FOR NEVER GIVING UP!

IN THE WORDS OF THE GREAT HARRY CARRY..."HOLY COW!" WE HAD ALL FIVE PLAYERS BECOME 1ST TEAM ALL DISTRICT TODAY ON A CHALLENGING COURSE (FOREST HILLS CC) WITH LESS THAN IDEAL CONDITIONS. I AM SO PROUD OF EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU!

Zach Gollwitzer (76) 1st team all-district
Frankie Thomas (80) 1st team all-district
Ryan Dean (80) 1st team all-district
Austin Schettler (81) 1st team all-district
Dillon Jones (82) 1st team all-district

That means this 2013 team has now finished 3rd in the Bulldog Battle at Winghaven, 3rd in the Webster Cup, 1st in the Suburban West Conference Tournament, and now 1st in one of the toughest districts in the state... WHY NOT US? SECTIONALS NEXT MONDAY AT CROWN POINTE!

SUBURBAN WEST CONFERENCE TITLE IS ON THE LINE WEDNESDAY AGAINST PARKWAY SOUTH. WHY NOT US? WHY NOT THIS YEAR?

GREAT CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT WIN! ALSO, GREAT WIN OVER LADUE TO PUT OUR MATCH RECORD AT 8 - 0 HEADING INTO OUR FINAL MATCH NEXT THURSDAY AGAINST THE 8 - 0 PARKWAY SOUTH PATRIOTS.
Running total of conference points (through April 26th). Points possible if medalist = 12 x Eureka, Oakville, Lafayette, Fox, Lindbergh, Mehlville, Northwest, Ladue, the conference tournament at Aberdeen, and our final match vs. Parkway South = 138 points without ties.

Zach Gollwitzer = 132 points (12 more vs. Parkway South shooting a 31/ par 36 on the back nine at the Landings at Spirit Golf Course and his results for the conference tournament (chosen before the round) and 28 for finishing 2nd in the conference tournament (76/ par 72).

Frankie Thomas = 61 points (10 more vs. Parkway South - finished 2nd with his 2 under par 34/ par 36 on the back nine at Spirit)
Austin Schettler = 43 points (3 more vs. Ladue -- back nine score of 40; matching Troy Brocaw for 4th) and 26 conference points for finishing 3rd in the suburban west conference tournament).
Dillon Jones = 22 points (4 more points for finishing 14th place in the conference tournament)
Adam Silverstone = 15 points (6 vs. Eureka/ 9 vs. Oakville)
Ryan Dean = 9 points (Nine vs Mehlville -- tied for 2nd)
Troy Brocaw = 5 points (2 for his 15th place conference finish; and 3 for his tie with Austin on the back nine at Aberdeen)

4/24/13 - MARQUETTE WINS THE SUBURBAN WEST CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT! From top to bottom, never give up on a shot, a hole, or a round. That was proven in the victory over the rest of the suburban west field with our 404 score (playing 6 players and keeping 5 scores). Zach Gollwitzer finished 2nd (score card playoff) with his 76/ par 72 (28 conference points); Austin Schettler  "got the bronze" by completing his round with a 76 also (losing in a scorecard playoff... 26 conference points); Dillon Jones finished the day with a solid 82 for 14th place (4 conference points); Troy Brocaw closed things out in style by finishing with an 83, which was 15th place for the day (2 conference points). Ryan Dean finished the day with an 87. I am very proud of all of these players. However, I am just as proud of the young man that had an article that came out on this very day to acknowledge his accomplishments. Frankie Thomas did not play close to the level he has played since February, however, he never hung his head and grinded through the round. His posted 91 was two stokes lower than Lindbergh's 6th score. I believe that if you treat the game well, and treat others well, it comes back to benefit you. I guess it would be called carma and golf. Best of Luck at Districts and beyond for all of you!

4/24/13 - Marquette runs their record to 8 - 0 for the conference match record. As mentioned above they have one remaining match against undefeated Parkway South (8 - 0) to determine the conference champion for the 2013 golf season. Today's match was chosen before competition began and the back nine was selected because Ladue could not make up the match any other time. Zach Gollwitzer was medalist with a 37/par 32 (12 points) while Austin Schettler and Troy Brocaw tied for 4th with their 80s (12, 10, 8, 6 - split into 3 and 3).

4/22/13 - Marquette conference match record goes to 7 - 0 with the win over Northwest House Springs (235 - 264). Zach Gollwitzer was medalist coming in three under par (33/ par 36) at the Landings at Spirit golf course. Frankie Thomas finished with a 39. Dillon Jones and Austin Schettler both completed their round with a pair of 40s. Ryan Dean finished with a 41 and Adam Silverstone finished only a stroke behind him with his 42. Carson Heyer and Sam Brown also represented the varsity team today.

4/20/13 - ANOTHER GREAT SHOWING BY OUR VARSITY GOLF TEAM!!! We finished in 4th place and only five strokes out of first for the day... things are setting up well for conference and districts. Zach Gollwitzer was the overall medalist by shooting his 75/ par 72. Frankie Thomas finished with an 80, Austin Schettler with an 83, and Dillon Jones with an 87. Ryan Dean finished out the Farmington squad for 2013. Those five players will be at Aberdeen Tuesday getting ready for conference (to be played on Wednesday).

4/17/13 - Marquette is challenged on a tough course at Quail Creek -- MHS 254 - Mehlville 290 and improves their match record to 6 - 0. Zach Gollwitzer is medalist with a posted 37/ par 36. Frank Thomas and Ryan Dean pick up 9 points apiece with their 41 scores. Austin Schettler and Dillon Jones are right behind with their score of 44. Marquette finished 5th or 8 teams in the white division of the Pattonville Hybrid tournament.
4/16/13 - Marquette varsity beats a tough Lindbergh team by 1 stroke at Pevely Farms Golf Course and JV finishes 2nd in the Washington Tournament. Marquette and Lindbergh have been neck and neck through the season in tournaments and matches. Marquette was undefeated in matches while Lindbergh lost an early match to Lafayette. The results could not have been any closer with a Marquette win. If the scores would have been tied at the end of six tallied scores then it goes to the 7th golfer's score. We would have lost that count 46 - 50. Every stroke counts! Marquette's Zach Gollwitzer finished 2nd for the day with his 39/ par 36 at Pevely Farms Golf Course. Frank Thomas was right behind and third in scoring for the day with his 40 and Ryan Dean continues his hot streak as of late with a 41 after taking an 8 on the first hole (sorry to put this on the web but what a great testiment to your resolve!). Austin Schettler and Dillon Jones finished with a 42 and 43 respectively. Without Sam Brown, Marquette would have lost their first match of the year (49).

4/15/13 - Another Great showing at another TOUGH TOURNAMENT! Marquette (318) finished 3rd in the Webster Cup, the second tournament in a row, behind SLUH (303) and DeSmet (317). The Mustangs were led by All-State golfer Zach Gollwitzer (73/ par 72) that was one stroke off the leader for the day. Frank Thomas finished with a 76 while Ryan Dean was close behind with an 82. Zach and Frank were top 15 medalists' for the day (2nd and 7th respectively). Dillon Jones and Adam Silverstone helped the cause as they also assisted in putting Marquette right in the mix with some of the area best.  Marquette continues conference play tomorrow at Pevely Farms Golf Club against a talented Lindbergh squad.

The JV team defeated Summit 253 - 292 at Sugar Creek Golf Course and bring their record up to 5 - 0 for the season of matches. Medalist for the day was Austin Bumb (39/ par 36). Hayden Meier was right behind with a 39. Nick Vaaler and Troy Brocaw finished with 41 and 44 to help the JV squad remain undefeated.

4/11/13 - Varsity moves to 4 - 0 in Suburban West conference matches by defeating the Fox Warriors 244 - 268 at the Landings at Spirit golf course. Medalists were Zach Gollwitzer and Dillon Jones with a 38 (par 36) in windy and cold conditions. Frank Thomas finished just behind them with a thirty-nine. A slew of Mustangs came in with 43s on the round -- Austin Schettler, Ryan Dean, and Sam Brown. Adam Silverstone scored a 44 while Conner Nichols brought in a 48.
Next week looks to be a pivotal one for the Varsity Stangs. Monday is the always competitive Webster Cup, Tuesday we play a talented Lindbergh team at Pevely Farms, Wednesday we go to Quail Creek to play Mehlville (they are always tough on that course), and Thursday we will have a practice round at Forest Hills Country Club. Those matches will determine who will compete in the annual trip to Farmington for Saturday's tournament at Crown Pointe.

4/12/13     Varsity finished tied for 3rd in the 25 team Winghaven Bulldog Battle. Medalist for the field was talented freshman Frankie Thomas shooting a one under 71. Fourth for the day and close behind was our own Zach Gollwitzer (Senior) with a 74 while Adam Silverstone (frosh) finished in the top 25 golfers of the field of 100 with his 78. Austin Schettler, the third of our talented freshmen playing for the day, finished with an 87. It was  a great start to our tournament season.

JV highlights so far this season...

April 11     Marquette JV advances to 4 -0 on the season in matches by defeating Fox at Pomme Creek. Hayden Meier was medalist with a 39. Coming in right behind his was Scribner (42), Bumb (42), Mohrman (43), Brocaw (44), and Vaaler and Smith finished with a 50.

April 9     Marquette JV moves its record to 2-0 on the road vs. the Lafayette Lancers. Meier was the medalist with a 43 while Brocaw and Mohrmann were right behind him with a 45. A slew of 47s finished out our scoring for the day (Nick Vaaler, Scribner, and Bumb).

April 4     Our JV team goes 1 - 0 in matches with a win over Lindbergh at the Landings. Low man for Marquette was Clayton Scribner with a 41. Next, Troy Brocaw finished with a 42 while Adam Mohrmann followed with a 44; Hayden Meier and Austin Bumb were right behind with 45s.

At the top of the scoreboard, I will keep a running total for our conference points.

For conference points, the medalist picks up 12 points, next (either team) picks up 10, then 8 and finally 6 points. If there are ties, then the difference in the point total is split.
