After 22 years at the Langham Creek program, coach Armando Sedeno has a good feel for what it takes to put together a successful team. Last year the Lobos finished 26-8, which included an area round playoff loss to Houston Memorial. But year in and year out, the Lobos are in the conversation as one Greater Houston’s top programs.

And 2012 will be no different.

“If everything works out, and we can avoid injuries, we are going to be pretty good,” Sedeno said. “There are always variables that happen during the season, but for sure these kids are focused.”

This level of focus starts with the senior and there’s no doubt that Sedeno has a solid group here. It all begins with the District 17-5A’s MVP in pitcher Hayden Jones. Last season Jones, an Oklahoma-commit, was 8-0 according to Sedeno. The Southpaw Jones has command of the plate and is a solid hitter as well.

But Sedeno said that the physical tools are not Jones’ best qualities.

“His self-confidence is what sets him apart. If a play needs to be made, he puts it on himself to get it done,” Sedeno said. “He is a three-time all-district player and the MVP of the district, what else can be said?”

Well, since you asked coach, who else you got? He went on to say that pitcher Brandon Montello (Blinn JC), who finished 8-1 was returning as well. Another lefty, Aaron Fletcher should see more time in 2012 after seeing limited action last year as a sophomore.

In the infield, Taylor Hodges (Panola JC) is back from injury and will return to the starting lineup. Ben Taylor will be at third base while doubling as the team’s closer.

Ryan Rand, who is headed to Texas A&M, is back to start in the outfield along with Zach Moore.
